Reports out of Oregon are that the Ducks will try to make an offer to Michigan State coach Tom Izzo. And not just any offer.
The report from KEZI-TV in Oregon says that the school will offer Izzo the largest contract among college basketball coaches. Currently, the biggest deal is at Kentucky, where John Calipari signed an eight-year deal worth more than $31 million.
Game On! caught Izzo's phone interview on SportsCenter today, where the coach said "I have great respect for Oregon and Phil and everyone out there ... It seems like this time of year when there's job openings my name comes up."
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan State coach Tom Izzo said Monday he is happy with his current job, responding to a report that Oregon wants to make him the richest coach in the nation.
KEZI-TV in Eugene, Ore., citing anonymous sources, reported the school plans to offer Izzo college basketball's largest contract with help from Nike Inc. co-founder Phil Knight.
"I have not been contacted," Izzo told The Associated Press on Monday. "I'm happy here and I'm focused on trying to win another national championship."
