Houston Spartans Seeking New Board Members

The Houston Spartans, a volunteer-based club affiliated with the MSU Alumni Association, is seeking alumni interested in serving on the Board of Directors and committing to improving the alumni organization. An election will be conducted starting on April 2nd and concluding with a meeting on April 9th to select a new Board. 

Houston Spartans Objectives

The major objectives of the Houston Spartans are:

• Social and Professional Networking
• Continued Professional Development
• Linkages between local alumni, Houston Spartans and MSU
• Social Activities
• Scholarships for Local Students
• Promotion of MSU to Local Students

Board Member Requirements and Responsibilities

Board members must  be

• Paid members of the MSU Alumni Association
• Actively committed to improving the Houston Spartans
• Participating in local alumni events
• Developing linkages with MSU, local alumni, and Houston area high school students interested in MSU. 
• Consistent attendance at Board Meetings and events is required (meetings generally held every 4-6 weeks). 

Board terms lengths will be three years, however for this initial election, three board members will be selected and serve staggered terms of one, two or three terms.

Board Member Nominations

Alumni interested in participating in the election for the Board must be submitted no later than March 11. You may nominate yourself or you may nominate any person who is eligible. Please submit nominations, or send any questions or comments, to houston.spartan@gmail.com.

Board Member Biographical Sketches

Alumni interested in serving on the alumni board are requested to send a brief biographical sketch that briefly outlines their background, experiences and their objectives as a Board member. A suggested format will be provided to each candidate. Biographical sketches will be circulated to the Houston Spartans mailing list and published on Houston Spartans websites to help the membership make informed choices.

Alumni Voting Participation

Alumni with paid membership status with MSU Alumni Association are eligible to participate in the election.  Alumni must be paid up by the end of March.  Each alumnus desiring to vote should update their profile information on the MSU Alumni Association Website.

Election Process

Elections will be held in conjuction with the annual meeting on Saturday, April 9.  To participate in the annual meeting, Alumni must present a valid MSU Alumni Association card. Members can also participate in early voting online.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting will be conducted at Mugsy’s on Saturday April 9th. The exact time
is to be determined, but it will be near mid-day. The agenda will be:

• Introduction of Existing Board
• Houston Spartan Objectives
• Major Accomplishments
• Planned Activites
• Introduction of Board Candidates
• Election of New Board
