New MSU logo
Michigan State University is set to release a new logo this Spring.
According to Heather Swain, the Assistant Vice President for University Relations, the new look is "the result of a two-year collaboration between MSU Athletics and a team of top designers from Nike."
In a statement for the media, MSU Athletic Director Mark Hollis commented on the broader marketing package around the new logo.
“The Spartan logo, posted on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Web site, is a single element of a comprehensive brand and identity project that will be unveiled in April by Michigan State athletics,” Hollis said in the statement. “As in all branding, the power of a single symbol cannot be appreciated or measured outside the context of the total presentation.”
More details on where the logo will be used and how it will affect the rest of the school's brand elements will be released in April.
It's speculated however, that the university will announce a switch to the Nike Pro Combat football uniforms, despite the uniform change the team received just two years ago.
